The folks at Thunder Road create their "Snorton" custom using an LS650 engine. I asked what modifications they make to the engine. They replied that modifications to the carburator, exhaust and cam timing are usually made as they build a Snorton. They use a 36mm Mikuni round slide carburator and a reverse cone megaphone muffler. These they offer for sale at $160.00 and $60.00, respectively. They suggest that gains from the cam timing changes are not worth the effort unless the engine is being taken from the frame for some other reason.
Seems to me that changing the carb would make it easier to put a decent air filter on the bike. It also seems that $160.00 is a pretty fair price. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
